Overall purpose of the role

A client-facing role, developing innovative strategic solutions for clients and helping them navigate the rapidly evolving world of marketing and communications. Where digital/social, advertising, branding, direct marketing, PR, media, and emerging platforms are all now converging and demand integrated strategic thinking that can catalyse cross-disciplinary opportunities.

Our Planning department is a crucial part of the Agency’s success, helping clients put Social Thinking at the heart of marketing, focused on understanding people and the evolving role of social to generate powerful socially-driven, data-fuelled insights which can drive actionable business value for brands.

What does the role involve?

Strategy

  • Taking client briefs, challenging them, and developing them into inspiring and actionable strategy decks
  • Building and evolving channel-specific strategies across YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, and X, with a particular flair for identifying content optimisations and driving measurable improvements in key social KPIs
  • Keeping abreast of new trends, platform features, and algorithm shifts on social, with an eye to how we can translate these new developments into opportunities or offerings for existing and potential clients
  • Conducting regular platform audits to identify gaps, areas for optimisations, and content fit, delivering recommendations to inform high-impact social execution
  • Developing and maintaining global/regional social channel playbooks and content best practices
  • You will be responsible for turning ideas into well-rounded, strategically-sound, deliverable plans that you lead and write, collaborating with others in the team to encompass audience insights, trend analysis, social audits, and marketing executions.

Innovation

  • Driving the conception and development of innovative on-brief social ideas for clients and/or new business, from bigger campaign themes to smaller execution ideas. You should be able to collaboratively guide and lead the idea-generation process with confidence. Having a pulse on new trends, developments, emerging platforms, and a sense of potential possibilities will also set you up for success in this role.

Client Management

  • Articulating those plans for clients in written and spoken form – writing and giving clear, compelling presentations. Once ideas are sold-in, you will then be the guardian of that plan, ensuring it’s delivered in a way that remains on-brief and in-line with the agreed vision. This involves working closely with those implementing all elements, from content strategists to creatives.

Research and Analysis

  • Intellectual curiosity is a must; we are looking for natural problem-solvers. You’ll need to have a good understanding of research approaches (on and offline) and be able to apply these approaches to uncover breakthrough insights that can drive our client objectives forward.
  • Tools we use include: Brandwatch, Meltwater, Waldo, GWI, Sprinklr, Emplifi
  • Research approaches we use include: social listening, ethnography, fieldwork, interviews, and semiotics

Effectiveness

  • Keen focus and understanding of how client business works and the ability to develop strategic approaches clearly designed to help grow clients’ brands and achieve their business and social objectives.
  • Clear understanding of marketing and social effectiveness and how to craft compelling channel strategies for performance, measurement, and tracking success both qualitatively and quantitatively.
  • A strong background in interpreting data and translating insights into actionable strategy is a key advantage.

Leadership

  • As a senior member of the team, you will lead by example, providing mentorship and support for more junior members of the team. You will have a strong point of view on the future of the digital marketing landscape and the role of social thinking within this. You will be experienced in expressing this point of view internally and externally and helping shape client and agency direction.

New Business

  • You will also play a vital part in new business development, meeting prospective clients, presenting credentials, taking briefs and leading pitches. You will be excited by the prospect of developing the agency as a business, pushing us into new areas, selling our ideas and approaches to new clients from new sectors.

Requirements

What are we looking for?

  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in social media work; including experience in an advertising, PR, or online marketing agency or similar field.
  • Open, inquisitive, proactive, can-do character with a focus on effective problem solving in creative ways
  • Systematic thinker and organised doer with proven leadership ability, capable of driving projects independently guiding smaller teams
  • Fluency and comfort crafting data-driven strategic thinking
  • Deep interest in wider communications/marketing trends and culture as a whole
  • Social media/advertising /brand enthusiast
  • Confident and articulate to present with conviction
  • Collaborative with a passion for delivering industry-defining work
  • Brings something new to the agency – demonstrates individual passions and expertise
