Scrolling through Taobao has never been more addictive because it practically reads our minds making product recommendations based on what we search for and/or like. Do we even notice how much artificial intelligence has been integrated into our daily lives?

刷淘宝从未像现在这样令人上瘾,它好像能基于我们喜欢的产品推荐来分析我们的思想和喜好。说真的,我们有没有注意到人工智能已经融入了我们的日常生活?

Netflix, an American entertainment company, uses artificial intelligence (AI) for recommendations.

美国娱乐公司Netflix使用人工智能(AI)来做推荐。

Amazon (similar to Taobao), uses AI to recommend products

亚马逊(类似于淘宝)用它来推荐商品。

And even Twitter has their own algorithm that focuses on a notification-based recommendation system to feed you personalised suggestions.

Joining the powerhouses is Weibo, that uses AI to generate the information that appears on users’ feeds. However, just a few days ago, Weibo users expressed uneasiness as they were haunted by chaotic timelines and numerous content duplication issues. Many of them started questioning Weibo's algorithm.

From the user’s perspective, personalised recommendations alter their feed to display Weibo's marketing instead of content they want to view. Has microblogging on Weibo turned into another news and information content application like Toutiao?

The question worth considering is whether all content industries or platforms fit the AI ‘mold’. Artificial intelligence is amazing, but not always relevant to every platform. Ultimately, understanding your users and their interface and experience preferences is essential in sustaining a user base.

是不是所有的内容行业或平台都适合这个“模板”,是一个值得考虑的问题。人工智能的确很神奇,但并不适用于所有的平台。归根结底,对维持用户基础来说,最重要的是了解用户以及了解他们对界面和手感体验的偏好。
